The Witch's Isle (Android/iOS) Walkthrough

The Witch's Isle is a mobile adventure game in which you're a cursed woman, living in a small island that has been ruled by a witch since the village elders' parents were children. Or has it? As you play, you'll be uncovering secrets to find out the history of the island, its curse, and the witch... Can you save everyone? Can you save yourself?

Before using the Walkthrough, remember to try the in-game hint system! It's the only way, other than donations, the devs can get money from this game. You don't wanna be that guy, do you?

FAQ

Remember: this is a particular kind of game, not so common these days, that only makes certain things possible after key events. It's most obvious at the start: you can do almost nothing before you get the Urn! Look at your Key Info tab. It looks like there's six different things you can get during the game... But the truth is, those things are in order. You won't be able to complete Wish before you get Ring, and you won't be able to get Ring before you get Diary! So if you're stumped in one of the key infos... Stop to see if all the previous ones are at 100%. If they aren't, you're not stumped, you just can't do it yet.

The most important thing in the game is the characters. You have a nice little feature in which the camera can follow characters as they go about their business... It isn't used often, but it's exactly what takes players out of ruts and progresses the game. Most common questions could be answered by following certain characters!

The time limit can be annoying, but keep this in mind: all endings give you achievements, and your objective is probably to get all achievements. In your first playthrough, you'll probably run out of time and get the bad ending. That's ok! And it's also the reason you can take things easy. That means, focus on finding all characters in your first playthrough! It takes time, and, knowing you'll get the bad ending, you have all the time in the world to wait around in a few spots until a certain character shows up. Running around the village trying to accomplish everything is a waste of time in this case. You can run around in your second playthrough! And it will be easier and quicker, because you'll have unlocked most important characters. That said, try to get the Seaweed Bad Ending on your first playthrough. That means being inside the Fountain (with Ring at 100%) when time runs out.

All being said, let's get to the guide! It's divided in five parts: Endings, with some quick information on how to get each ending, Map, so you can know where's each place, Characters, with all the unlockable characters and how to find them, Walkthrough, where I give you all steps to beat the game, and FAQ, mostly for people showing up from Google who don't want to read the entire guide.

Endings

Most endings are based on how much of each key info you got. And depending on that, you'll need a different number of Fatty Fish.
Bad End: Run out of time. Happens at 4:00 AM. Can be obtained at the same time as the Seaweed-Entangled Bad End! (0 Fatty Fish)
Seaweed-Entangled Bad End: Run out of time (like an usual Bad End) while you're inside the fountain, swimming. (screenshot) You need Ring at 100% to access the Fountain. (3 Fatty Fish)
Sad End 1: Get Witch's Urn to 100%, and go to the witch's castle. (0 Fatty Fish)
Sad End 2: Get Witch's Diary to 100%, and go to the witch's castle. (1 Fatty Fish)
Sad End 3: Get Ring to 100%, and go to the witch's castle. (2 Fatty Fish)
Sad End 4: Get Wish to 100%, and go to the witch's castle. (3 Fatty Fish)
Normal End: Get Research to 100%, and go to the witch's castle. (3 Fatty Fish)
True End: Having previously gotten the Normal End, get Sword to 100%, and go to the witch's castle. (3 Fatty Fish)

Map

The island has 5 levels, each with different places (or, as the game calls them, spots). Each line in this guide will be a level, from top to bottom. Then, just as you read from left to right, the spots listed are left to right. Both "Closed Houses" and "Sleeping Houses" are houses you'll never be able to enter. Some spots have no in-game name and were given arbitrary names for the sake of this map. Most access points can only be reached after a certain Key Info is at 100%.

Characters

The island has 35 unlockable characters. You can only play with the Cursed Islander, but you can follow all other 34 characters around with the ⊕ Follow option. Both the Mouse and the Fisherman are VERY important characters that you should unlock as soon as possible. Each character listed below includes standing places and routines. If they constantly go from one place to another, but stop in both places, that's their standing places - your best shot at finding them is waiting in (or near) those places. Sometimes characters only show up after you get a Key Info to 100% - meaning, while you're in the middle of the next Key Info, and that's the one listed. So, for example:

Sleepy YouthDiarySleepy Youth's House, Square15
Means the character called Sleepy Youth only shows up after you get the Witch's Urn key info to 100%, so while you're working on the Diary key info. He travels between his house and the Square, and stops for a while in both places. So if you're looking to unlock that character, you can wait anywhere in that path, but your best bet is keeping watch in front of the Square. The last number is the ordering in the in-game characters screen. That means that, once you unlock every 35 characters, he'll be the 15th character shown... And he'll always be before the Metalworker (16th) and after the Little Girl (13th).

Walkthrough

Keep in mind that unlocking the characters of this game is very important to game progress. That said, as soon as you get a Key Info to 100%, you should go up this page and go through the list of characters that show up after that Key Info.
All Key Infos can only be completed after their previous Key Infos are at 100%. Since the games divides it like that, this walkthrough is also divided by Key Infos. Remember: you'll have to complete them in order!

Before using the Walkthrough, remember to try the in-game hint system! It's the only way, other than donations, the devs can get money from this game. You don't wanna be that guy, do you?

Lore

[cutscene]
Try exploring the island and unlocking all Lore characters! The Tall Woman only stays put before the next step in this guide. You need to have unlocked the Moon-Gazing Youth to proceed.
Go to the Southern Shore.
[cutscene]
If you haven't yet, unlock the Thief by talking to him.
Go to the Square, and observe the Goddess Statue.
[cutscene], Lore 100%

Witch's Urn

Go to the Bell Tower, and go all the way up the stairs.
[cutscene]
Grab the Brass Urn.
[cutscene], Witch's Urn 100%

Diary

Important! from here on, you'll be able to use the Brass Urn on the Witch's Tree to enter the Castle. But when you go to the Castle, the game will end! Check the Endings List to decide when you should go in to end the game.
Lots of characters can show up now! Try unlocking all the Diary characters!
Go to the Forest Where The Woodcutter Lives. Wait until the Woodcutter goes inside his house, enter the house and talk to him.
Exit the house and get the Woodcutter's Ax.
Go to the House With A Cellar. Get inside and grab the key.
Go to Your House. Get inside and grab the Fishing Rod.
Go to the Western Shore. On the platform with the fire, go all the way left until you can get to the fishing spot.
Fish!
You need 3 Fatty Fish to complete the game. You can get an achievement for catching 10 Fatty Fish, and another for catching 10 Little Fish! To fish, wait until your float/bobber goes all the way down, with a splash, and tap to get the fish. Sometimes the float/bobber only goes a little down, and you'll get nothing if you reel it in. It has to splash! Which fish you get is random.
Unlock the Mouse! It shows up in the Square, disappears, and then shows up in the Cellar.
Go to the Old Well, all the way down, and to the right. You'll get a Flint.
Follow ⊕ the Mouse. You'll see it going from the Old Well to the Cellar by an underground tunnel...
Go to the point the tunnel meets the Old Well's wall (screenshot) and use the Ax.
Go inside the tunnel. Use a Fatty Fish to get Fish Oil, then use the Flint.
Go right until you get to the stairs, then go up. Use the Cellar Key.
Get the Queen's Diary (and the Hex Rod).
Use the Queen's Diary to read it. Reach the last page to unlock the cutscene.
[cutscene] Diary 100%

Ring

Unlock the Fisherman! He goes from his Shed to the Western Shore, fishes a bit, then goes back to his Shed for a while.
Follow ⊕ the Fisherman. When he enters his shed, he'll start complaining.
Now, from the light's path, you should know where the roof entrance is... But it's kinda hard to get it right from the outside, so you can either see this screenshot, or watch an ad to unlock the Ring's second hint. That'll put the pink triangle on the exact spot you have to tap.
After you get inside the Fisherman's Shed through the roof, use another Fatty Fish (told you you'd need three) and use the Flint.
Get the ring, all the way left.
Go to the Metalworker's House. Use the Queen's Ring (if you haven't before). Talk to the Metalworker, and he'll polish it.
Exit the house, then get back inside and talk to the Metalworker again.
[cutscene]
Use the Queen's Ring.
[cutscene] Ring 100%

Wish

If you haven't yet, get the Hex Rod from the Cellar.
Go to the Bell Tower, there's a small hole on the second floor. Use the Hex Rod when you're near it.
[cutscene] Go all the way up, to the Bell Tower's attic, and get the Letter.
Use the Letter to read it. Reach the last page to unlock the cutscene.
[cutscene]
Go to the left watchtower in the southern beach. Climb down (screenshot) and get the Child Ornament.
Go to the Sanctuary, all the way left to the second room with the statue (if you're wondering about it, it's depicting the Judgment of Solomon). Use the Child Ornament. Grab the Silver Dagger.
Go to the Fountain. (Be sure you completed all the previous steps, it's a looong way back) Since you aren't cursed anymore, you can go all the way! Remember to use the Ax there to leave it behind. You can get it back later.
Enter the fountain and swim down, then right through a small tunnel, then up again.
Use your third Fatty Fish, then use the Flint.
Go down (grab the rope), then left and through the other underwater tunnel. Don't worry about your Flint, you won't need it anymore.
Go to the beach, then up, then left. When you can't go further, use the Silver Dagger.
[cutscene] Wish 100%
It feels like you should go to the castle now, but don't! You'll only get the Sad Ending 4!

Research

Observe the berries. No trees around, huh? While going back, you'll get a cutscene.
Get a piece of rope from the cavern in the Fountain, if you haven't yet.
Grab your Ax back in the Fountain.
Get a piece of rope from the base of the Bell Tower, if you haven't yet.
Get a piece of rope from the Sleepy Youth's House, if you haven't yet. He needs to be inside the house. If it's locked, just wait in front of it until the Sleepy Youth comes back.
Get a piece of rope from the Empty, Unlocked House, if you haven't yet.
Get a piece of rope from the Thief's Boat, if you haven't yet.
Go to the Cliff. A berry tree, huh? Use the Ax there.
Now go all the way back through the Fountain, and grab your Ax from the other side. Go in front of the gnarly tree door thing, and use your Ax.
Go inside the Hollow In The Rocky Area, and grab the Research On The Other World.
Before going back through the underground tunnel, you'll have to drop the Woodcutter's Ax there. What happened to "taking good care of it"?
Go to the Woods. Follow the guy inside the left Tent and talk to him.
[cutscene]
Use the translated Research On The Other World to read it. Reach the last page to unlock the cutscene.
[cutscene] Research 100%
Save your game! That way you won't have to replay it later to get the true ending. Thanks Captain Greazyshorts for the tip!
Now you can get the Normal Ending by going to the castle. If you've already gotten the Normal Ending, the Sword key info is unlocked.

Sword

You can only get to this one if you got the Normal Ending in the past. If you saved when I said, load that save now!
Most characters' routines have changed, you can follow each one so you find out more about them and their lives. It's not needed, though.
Go to the Witch's Castle... BUT! Instead of going to the throne room after going up, go to the tower on the left. It's a bit tricky - you have to be on the lower level, at the top of the stairs, and tap the left of the castle. You can try yourself, look at the screenshot, or watch an ad to unlock the Sword's second hint.
Get the Emerald Sword.
Sword 100%
Now go to the throne room and show that witch who's the boss!

FAQ

Sometimes you only have that one tiny question, and don't want to read the entire guide to find the answer. That's ok! First of all, check to see if you're trying to complete the right Key Info. They are in order, and you cannot complete one Key Info if the previous ones aren't at 100%!

How do I break the Old Well's Wall?
Follow ⊕ the Mouse to find out why and how you should break it. The Mouse stops for a few seconds at both the Square and the Cellar. Alternatively, you can watch a video to unlock the hint, which will give you a pink triangle on the exact spot, or just look at this screenshot.

How do I get inside the Shed?
You can only do it after you get Diary to 100%. Then, wait for a while either in front of it or on the Western Shore, until the Fisherman shows up. Unlock him and then use the Follow ⊕ feature on him. Be patient... wait until he goes back inside the Shed and starts complaining. Then, from the outside, tap the spot he's complaining about. Alternatively, you can watch a video to unlock the hint, which will give you a pink triangle on the exact spot, or just look at this screenshot.

How do I not get the Bad End?
You have to go to the Witch's Castle before 4:00AM. To do that, use the Urn in the Witch's Tree.

How do I get the 5th piece of rope? / Where's the Cavern?
You'll only get there after Ring is at 100%. Getting to the Cavern is part of the steps to complete Wish.

What do I use the ropes for?
You use them during Research. And you actually don't use them as items, they're used when you Use your Ax in the Cliff.

I'm still missing two characters!
Search the village again when you get Research to 100%. The Bug Expert is at the last house before the Woods.
Then, stay for a while in the place you stuck the Silver Dagger in. The Butterfly will eventually show up (screenshot).

How do I translate the Research?
After you get it, you can finally access the Woods behind the Bell Tower! Try going there.

How do I get the Emerald Sword?
You have to complete the Normal End at least once before. Then, go to the Witch's Castle, but don't go into the throne room! Right at the top of the stairs, tap on that bridge thing on the left (screenshot).

What's up with that Silver Dagger?
It's simpler than you think! I have no idea what the deal with the black smudge was, either. But you don't need to polish it or get rid of it... Get Ring to 100% and read the Wish part of this guide.

How do I give the Woodcutter back his Ax?
You don't. In fact, he'll never see it again.
